New Dyson Book to Feature Jay-Z
Jay-Z has written the introduction for Georgetown University professor, Michael Eric Dyson’s, new book called Know What I Mean? Reflections On Hip Hop.
According to the author’s website, the book - which focuses on hip-hop’s international exposure, use of politics and gender relations, among other topics - opens with an introduction by Jay-Z and an outro written by Nas.
“He has shown those doubters and critics that hip hop is a vital arts movement created by young working-class men and women of color,” Jay-Z writes of Dyson. “Yes, our rhymes can contain violence and hatred. Yes, our songs can detail the drug business and our choruses can bounce with lustful intent. However, those things did not spring from inferior imaginations or deficient morals; these things came from our lives. They came from America.”
Know What I Mean? Reflections On Hip Hop hits stores on July 2 through Perseus Books.

hovie - I know what you mean. It’s great to see hip-hop artists like Jay-Z branching out and showing their diversity. Maybe people like Oprah will start to have some respect for them.
