Solange Knowles - Words for Jamie Lynn Spears

Beyoncé’s younger sister, Solange Knowles, had some words of wisdom for pregnant teen Jamie Lynn Spears, the younger sister of Britney Spears

Solange was a teen mother (as was I) and she understands the challenges associated with going through something so difficult (and scary!) in the public eye.  Solange, who is now 21, had her son when she was 18 years old.  “I’m sure a lot of people perceived that I was gonna be a young, irresponsible mom,” Knowles told Usmagazine.com during a recent visit.  “I think that there are some moms who are 35 who are just as irresponsible.”

I have to agree.  I mean, it’s not ideal to have a baby at a super young age but how a mother deals with it depends on her maturity and dedication to being a good parent more than her age, I think.  Her advice for Jamie?  “You just have to make the best decisions for you,” Knowles said. “You have to decide what’s best for you.  Who are we to say what’s right and wrong for a person?”

Just like Jamie has done with trying to keep a low profile in Kentucky, Solange “moved to the country for a year” without any nannies or babysitters to focus on being a mother.  “My parents lived on a whole opposite part of the world,” she said. “My son has been my focus ever since the day he was born.”

“He’s been the light of my life,” she added, “the inspiration behind everything.”

I feel the same way about my own daughter.  Good for Solange for being a positive example and for speaking up.

She’s right, age has nothing to do with the ability to be a great mom. It’s all about maturity. While it’s not the ideal situation to be a teenage mom, it sounds like Solange has her head and heart in the right place.

I also think having Britney as a sister will give Jamie Lynn a very real example of what not to do when it comes to motherhood. That’s got to have an impact.

When you’re sixteen your life did just started. You are a teen who choose her future, going into a new scool, not taking care of a baby. When you’re 18 you’re a grown up, not a teen. But your life did barley just start in real when your 18 but old enough to have a baby. But this is what I think, and i think it sounds sensible. PEOPLE: PLEASE WHERE I CONDOM!!! Or else you’ll end up as Jamie Lynn. Your body is not ready for popping out a whole baby when you’re sixteen! So please, wait for having sex without condom, at least until your body has grown done!

Here’s hoping that Jamie Lynn will be just as wonderful a mother as you and Solange are. I also agree with Cherie - I PRAY that Britney’s failure has some impact on JL…

I’m sure the money made it easier for solange to get used to being a mother… for most ppl having a nanny is not even a choice to make- they can’t afford it so acting like shes special for not having one is stupid. At the end of the day, JL will get alot of help around her to help her settle in motherhood and at the end of the day this child is still a product of irresponsible teens/parents.Solange should not try and glorify this situation. You can make it work, but you should avoid it at all costs in the first place.
